Kris Van Puyvelde and Frank Boschman met for the first time at the University of Antwerp in Belgium, studying to become engineers. Many years later in 1992, they met again, each with the intention of starting their own business. Together they wanted to import teak outdoor furniture from Indonesia; however, they realized that they were poor quality products, manufactured only in a colonial style. They decided that they would create better designs by improving the quality of the furnishings. In a few days they formed their company, calling it "Royal Botania", an allusion both for the natural beauty of the lush botanical gardens and for the "classic" supernatural furniture that they would create. |
